Egypt - Essay Example The settlement marked the onset of a more centrally oriented society; the Early Dynasty Period (3100-2686 BCE); the kingdom of the earliest Egyptian king Menes. The Egyptians made use of copper, made architectural and state buildings. Firmly established was the concept of 'Divine Kingship' which persisted in Egypt for around three millennia (Kinnaer, 2012). The Old Kingdom (2686-2181 BCE) was one of the high times of the Egyptian civilization, centered on the God kings; their mummification and the concept of immortality being practiced for the royals and the priests. The first evidence of statue making, painting and writing of annals of important events is also found in this dynasty. This Era in antiquity was followed by collapse of the unified Egypt due to political instability, famine and local violation of temples and then began the First Intermediate Period(2181-2055 BCE) which witnessed much turmoil in shape of low floods. While the Nile floods allowed cultivation of land, Herak leopolitan king Bahr Yusuf restored order and stability in the region. Subsequently the Theban ruler Mentuhotep unified Egypt again and gave way to the establishment of Middle Kingdom (Hassan, 2012). The Theban ruler reestablished central authority, regained hold of southern delta and unified the two valleys to usher the Middle Kingdom(2055-1650 BCE). In this era the Cult of Orisis was attended to and military campaigns were sent, that contributed in regaining Egypt`s lost land. Finest carved reliefs and outstanding monuments like Mentuhotep's mortuary complex are the gifts of this dynasty to the Egyptian history (Meyers, 1996). When the Huskos invaded this land, the Second Intermediate(1650-1550 BCE) Period started which was characterized mainly by decentralization, change of center to Thebes, production of literary and scientific text and administrative records. This era ended after the Theban rulers drove Huskos away from Avaris. Subsequent rise of the Theban ruler Ahmose ushered the New Kingdom (1550-1069 BCE) and the pharaohs commanded unimaginable wealth. The Empire became the most prosperous of all times and at the peak of its power (Shaw, 2000). A number of artistic finds are related to this period including monumental architecture, mortuary temples of Thebes, statuary to honor pharaohs and gods, huge tombs made by cutting rock and various artistic masterpieces created by common individuals of that society. This period spans over five centuries (Logan, 1977). With the death of the pharaoh in 21st Dynasty, began the 350 years duration of politically divided rule; and finally at the end Nubians took over; in the Third Intermediate Period however bronze statuary kept on flourishing (the Third intermediate Period, metmuseum.org). After some years of Nubian rule, Assyrians invaded the land and fought for about 8 years; the Late Period(664-332 BCE) began from here, then the Saite took over and Egypt became its ally. After fall of Assyrians, Babylonians posed the major threat but the Persians conquered Babylon and with it Egypt as well. Alexander the Great defeated the Persians in 332 B.C. The last dynasty to rule ancient Egypt was Nectanebo, and Nectanebo II

Personal statement - Essay Example I demonstrated my skills by starting a debut ââ¬Å"high techâ⬠home health agency where I together with my fellow practitioners infused blood products, IVIG, pain management and chemotherapy agents. I further gained knowledge and skills, two years after successful training in the Metabolic and Oncology units, in handling open heart patients and trauma patients while working in the ICU. Having demonstrated further skills in leadership and critical decision making in difficult situations, I was promoted to nurse in charge position. With 8 years into the promotion as charge nurse, I got a transfer to the Emergency medicine where I continued to naturally demonstrate my leadership qualities. I developed a comprehensive plan to enhance and facilitate the delivery of the emergency care in the ER. This plan entailed patients the highest priority and emphasizing on the customer service. This was the cause of my immediate promotion to the position of the Director of the Emergency Department. I returned to outpatient job after 12 years in the ER. Currently I am employed with a pharmacy as an infusion nurse where I handle Pulmonary Hypertension patients and those in need of enzyme replacement or IVIG infusions. I also partly work with other hospitals, offering education on therapies to nurses and physicians on the same caliber. All these time I have focused on developing further my assessment skills and ability to make critical decisions and multitasking. Personally, I regard a Nurse Practitioner as important personnel in modern healthcare services. In most cases, the practitioner assists the Managing Director to deliver care; without them, almost all patients can go unattended. In addition, they examine patients professionally and help them make good decisions concerning health. Practitioners are a necessity for the successful delivery of healthcare. I chose nurse practitioner for several reasons: firstly, I have enough time to study nursing.
Political Science Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 1
Political Science - Assignment Example The Congress used the commerce power in the U.S constitution to enact the provision that the Supreme Court subsequently upheld (Schwinn, 2015). The Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the provision. Indeed, the Supreme Court noted that the provision could apply in small local hotels since they bought most of their raw materials from other states thus amounting to interstate commerce that falls under the regulation of the commerce clause (Cornell University Law School, 2015). The provision is an effective business measure that eliminated the eminent negative image on interstate commerce since it criminalized the behavior of denying the minority groups access to accommodation and catering services. Ideally, racial discrimination has substantial effect on interstate commerce and hence the provision seeks to regulate this effect (Cornell University Law School, 2015). The provision has control over non-state businesses unlike the Fourteenth Amendment that only applied to state actors. The Fourteenth Amendment only illegalized state-sponsored disà crimination but did not address private discrimination. The provision developed a private right of action that allowed the federal government to charge non-state actors with Equal Protection violations (Schwinn, 2015). Apparently, most businesses serve interstate travellers and hence the significance of the provision. As such, I agree with the provision in the 1964 Civil Rights Act that illegalizes racial discrimi nation in businesses that provide accommodations to interstate travelers. Schwinn, S. (2015). My Three Most Recent Classical Escapades Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
My Three Most Recent Classical Escapades - Essay Example Eight months ago, I was opportune to have the London Symphony Orchestra in a rare spectacle at Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. The orchestra under Valery Gergievââ¬â¢s direction had created for the audience a milestone high with raptures of Prokofievââ¬â¢s fifth and sixth symphonies (LSO Press) becoming that indescribable moment the lifeblood of the violin concerto which the ensemble took to the level of genius. The raving Russian conductor had had his very peculiar way of getting every bow on chord to regulate textures of rhythm with a wide range of crescendo from which to pick an element either of mildness or of severity. Laid back on my seat some ten meters from the stage, tensions fastened with me every shaken sense that my appreciation grew with intense curiosity from one level on to the next as if a wide-eyed scene shut into suspense. A particular story was being weaved movement upon movement like an act in a play, while the tempo brought indications where tragedy must come in, the point to remain as such or otherwise jolt-free with the magical winds, as their collaboration with the strings awaited subsidence of the latter to tell which part would relax cardiac beating.

Japan economy after the earthquake and tsunami Research Paper
Japan economy after the earthquake and tsunami - Research Paper Example The purpose of this paper is to describe the economic effects of the March 11th earthquake on Japan. The earthquake devastated the infrastructure of Japan. There are over 500,000 people homeless as a consequence of the earthquake. The overall property damage exceeds $300 billion (Huffingtonpost). The effect of having so many people homeless has destabilized the nation in social and economic terms. Despite all the humanitarian help that has come from the global community the Japanese government is finding it hard to feed and provide shelter to so many people. Due to the rising cost of petroleum and its derivative products is going more expensive than the $300 billion estimate to reconstruct Japan. A major problem that is hurting the economy of Japan is the damage that the earthquake caused to the power supply of the country. About ? of the electricity in Japan is produced by 4 nuclear reactors. The earthquake caused major damage to one of the plants. The nuclear accident in the Japane se Fukushima plant is considered the biggest nuclear accident since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. Due to the immediate danger that the nuclear facility pose to the population the nuclear electricity infrastructure of Japan has been offline. There is a shortage of electricity across Japan. The lack of electricity throughout the entire country has negatively impacted the industrial activity in Japan. Manufacturing companies have been forced to temporarily shut down operations. This is affecting the ability of the country to export goods. The working class of Japan is losing valuable income everyday which is hurting the well-being of Japanese families. Another problem that companies are having in Japan is supply chain issues. The transportation system in Japan is in total chaos. The short term outlook for the Japanese economy is not too bright. The OECD had to recalculate the GDP growth forecast of Japan for 2011. The OECD GPD forecast for 2011 was lowered to 0.8% from the original metr ic of 1.7% (Euronews). There are major health concerns in Japan as a consequence of the earthquake. In the short term the quake caused injuries to thousands of people. The health system of Japan has been overloaded with work due to the massive amount of people requiring medical treatment. Another issue of major concern for the people of Japan was the nuclear accident in the Fukushima plant. Radiation has been already released into the population. An early study on the situation claimed that the 5.5% of the Japanese population living within 200 square kilometers of the damaged Fukushima plant would develop cancer in the long term (Youtube). This figure implies that 400,000 people would develop cancer. The only way to prevent such a horrible health forecast is to evacuate the entire area of 7.8 million inhabitants. Japan is still in a state of crisis six weeks after the earthquake. During the last month it is estimated that the Japanese economy has lost $297.8 billion (Theworldreporte r). Even a strong economy such as Japanââ¬â¢s cannot sustain these types of losses in such a short period of time. There a strong concerns that the Japanese economy will enter into a recession. The global economy will be hurt if Japan goes into a recession because Japan is considered one of the 8 most powerful countries in the world. Nobody could have image that such a strong earthquake would hit Japan. The people of Japan

What and How Human Resources Strategies Can Be Implemented Essay
What and How Human Resources Strategies Can Be Implemented - Essay Example Wal-Mart is one of the largest employers in the world and implements effective human resource practices and strategies to maintain the diverse work culture in the company. The company maintains a detailed database for its human resources and keeps eye to the intricate details of proper recruitment, training and development, compensation and performance management for the employees. The effective management and human resource practices are identified as the key factors for driving the success of Wal-Mart through decades of its operations across the globe. Strategic human resource management plays a critical role in delivering the performance of Wal-Mart. Therefore, the company pays major attention to the human resource practices followed in the organization. 1. Recruitment Wal-Mart over the years of operations has taken various recruitment and staffing policies in order to maximize their outputs with the minimum costs incurred. In 2013 June the company had been hiring only the tempora ry staffs for their U.S. stores. Though the temporary recruitment is one of the popular policies of the retail organizations during the holiday seasons when they would require additional employee strength. However, the company had adopted this policy at a time when there is no such pressure of the holiday season in the US market. According to the managers of the organization that policy was taken to ensure that there is no dearth of employee in Wal-Mart in running their day to day activities. They also claimed that it was not something that the company had taken in order to cut the cost of hiring the employees (Morrison, 2006, pp. 75-91). This is because the cost of hiring a permanent employee is much more than what it takes to hire a temporary worker. But this was denied by the managers of the organization. The Human resources managers has taken this strategy on the ground that the temporary workers would be adequately able to meet up the needs of Wal-Mart on the nights of the week days and on the weekends when the number of footfalls in the stores in the greatest. Thus there would no need for hiring the additional permanent staff that would otherwise be required (Needle, 2010, pp. 112-137). This would however lead to a slackening of the employment in the country of US since the employment in the company is huge and would comprise of the large section of the employed population of the company. This policy may not be considered as a feasible policy considering the long run scenario (Marching ton and Wilkinson, 2012, pp. 45-59). This is because the temporary employees are generally not loyal to the company and therefore if they get better offer they would switch to the other companies from Wal-Mart. There would also be lack of motivation among the employees to do the job because of the lack of loyalty among the employees and the lesser remuneration that they would derive out of the organization. This is also unethical on part of the company to recruit the tempor ary workers in order to dodge the healthcare costs (Kew and Stredwick, 2008, pp. 241-297). This is because the new healthcare laws of the United States demand that the organizations that hire the workers on a permanent basis have to provide them with healthcare benefits. In order to retain the loyalty of the employees and to keep them motivated to the work the company has to provide them with these healthcare benefits as well. They should also be provided with the insurances in order to take care of the ethical aspects of the business. 2. Training and Development In
